Hi. I’ve been spending the last few days gardening, walking my in-laws’ dog and doing my best to stop looking at my phone too much. I chopped my hair and made this space look pretty. I feel lighter.
I’m pretty happy with my most recent personal work, I’ve put together an image bank from pictures I took over the past few years so I could extract textures and shapes from them. A lot of plants, rocks and skies; it feels nice to give purpose to all these images I’ve captured.
I’ve switched to Touch Designer to create these compositions, so I could animate them with a MIDI controller. There is a huge learning curve ahead still, but it feels so nice to experiment with new tools and to adjust things with knobs instead of doing everything with a mouse.
So, where do we go from here?
Next step is to control some parameters with sound, I’m still figuring that out.
I also really want to find a way to incorporate symbols and illustrations on top of this and it feels like I finally have found an opportunity to look into variable fonts. Been putting this off for ages but I guess we’re doing this now, I’m excited to see how this will turn out.
It’s quite funny how stepping away from the tools I’m most familiar with actually feels beneficial for my creativity. I keep on stumbling on small things I need to resolve and I would have expected to feel discouraged at some point, but it’s been a huge motivation to know that there is still so much to figure out. If you often feel stuck like I do, it may be worth it to switch things up and try something new!
Keeping this issue short and sweet, thank you for following along.
I’d love to get some feedback on this (still) new format, please reach out!
